WORKOUT
Thunderline Engine
Wed, 14 October 2026
50 minutes if all complexes are completed.
Engine, explosive power and full-body conditioning
Kettlebell, with dumbbell and bodyweight options, plus mat if needed
Warm-Up — Power Primer
Duration: 7 minutes.
Instructions: Complete 2 smooth rounds. Gradually raise the heart rate and prepare the hips, shoulders and trunk for explosive work. Keep the first round easy and build the range and pace on round two.
Complex 1 — Powerhouse Tabata
Time: 15 minutes.
Format: Tabata.
Scheme: 20s work / 10s transition × 30 intervals. Complete all 6 stations in order for 5 rounds.
Instructions: Choose a load you can move explosively for all five rounds. Keep the reps fast and technically sharp rather than chasing maximum weight. If the movement starts to grind, lighten the load.
Complex 2 — Bodyweight Redline
Time: 10 minutes.
Format: Intervals.
Scheme: 40s work / 20s transition × 2 rounds.
Instructions: Put the weights down and change gear completely. Keep the movements simple, fast and athletic. Work hard for the full 40 seconds, then use the 20 seconds to reset.
Complex 3 — Ground Power Ladder
Time: 8 minutes.
Format: Ascending ladder.
Scheme: 4-6-8-10... Continue adding 2 reps each round for as long as time allows.
Instructions: Complete all four exercises at 4 reps, then 6, then 8 and continue climbing. Regain control after the Redline block and keep the loaded reps crisp as fatigue builds.
Targets: Beginner — complete the 8-rep rung | Intermediate — complete the 10-rep rung | Expert — complete the 12-rep rung
Beginner Level — Power Foundations
For Complex 1, complete 4 rounds / 12 minutes and use the simpler versions below: Power snatch → Kettlebell clean Goblet squat → Goblet squat Ballistic row → Controlled single-arm row Push press → Light strict press or push press Dead-stop swing → Standard two-hand swing Front-rack march → Front-rack march
For Complex 2, complete 1 round / 5 minutes.
Use: High knees → fast march Hand-release push-ups → incline or knee push-ups Lateral shuffle → side steps Crab toe touches → slow crab toe touches or reverse tabletop hold Squat thrusts → step-back squat thrusts
For Complex 3, work for 6 minutes and stop climbing if movement quality starts to fade.
Intermediate Level
Complete the workout exactly as written. Use loads that allow you to maintain speed and clean positions throughout all five Powerhouse Tabata rounds.
Advanced Level
Complete the standard workout first, then choose one progression:
Option 1: Use a slightly heavier kettlebell in Powerhouse Tabata while maintaining explosive power-snatch and push-press reps.
Option 2: Extend Bodyweight Redline to 3 rounds / 15 minutes.
Option 3: Extend Ground Power Ladder to 10 minutes and continue climbing.
Do not automatically increase all three sections.
Core crescendo
Time: 4 minutes
Round 1: Low plank - 1:30 Rest: 30s
Round 2: Low plank — 1:00 Rest: 30s
Round 3: Low plank — 0:30
Instructions: Hold a strong plank for each round. Reset fully during the rest periods and make the final 30 seconds your strongest hold.
Cool-Down — Engine Down
Duration: 6 minutes.
Instructions: Let the heart rate come down gradually and release the shoulders, hips and posterior chain after the repeated power work.
Focus & Benefits
Builds explosive power, cardiovascular capacity and full-body work endurance through snatching, squatting, pulling, pressing and fast athletic bodyweight movement. The Powerhouse Tabata develops repeatable power under fatigue, before Bodyweight Redline sharply increases the conditioning demand. The final ladder returns to controlled kettlebell work and full-body strength endurance.
Pro Tip: Choose your Powerhouse weight based on what you can still move sharply in round five, not what feels impressive in round one. Power should look fast — once the reps become a grind, the load is too heavy.
